Another year, another underwhelming list...

Adele - 19
British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?
Burial - Untrue
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
Estelle - Shine
Laura Marling - Alas I Cannot Swim
Neon Neon - Stainless Style
Portico Quartet - Knee-Deep In The North Sea
Rachel Unthank & The Winterset - The Bairns
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand
The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement

Could Alex Turner possibly fail at anything? I'm putting my money on Robert Plant and Alison Kraus, but I'd love Laura Marling to win.

Who should win?

Who's going to?

Who's missing?*

* No Lightspeed Champion? Shenanigans! And I thought the Cribs would have snuck in...

The Xfm Covers Quiz is back! http://www.xfm.co.uk/Article.asp?b=multimedia&id=533320

I won nothing at all last year, so I haven't yet sunk any time into this.

This year's Mercury Nominations have been released, and ho-hum:

Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Dizzee Rascal - Maths and English
The View - Hats Off to the Buskers
Maps - We Can Create
Bat For Lashes - Fur and Gold
Klaxons - Myths of the Near Future
Jamie T - Panic Prevention
The Young Knives - Voices of Animals and Men
Fionn Regan - The End of History
Basquiat Strings with Seb Rochford - Basquiat Strings
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom

THE VIEW?!

Needless to say, Arctic Monkeys and Whinehouse are favourites. It's an annoyingly mainstream list - normally the Mercurys is the one award that will nominate more obscure genres/acts, but this year, it could be the index of the NME. And quite possibly is.

I'm gunning for Bat For Lashes or Young Knives myself.

I know we're all sick to death of the Pete and Carl's never ending saga of break ups and reconciliations by now, but I think this report on the latest make up is well worth reading for the first couple paragraphs.

I spent my morning trying to get tickets to Arcade Fire's five NYC shows. I failed. (Luckily for me, I do have a ticket b/c a friend did manage to get through.) Tickets.com' server(s) went down in flames, apparently - how they could have failed to gauge the demand is beyond me.

Had I not had a ticket, this would not have been funny at all. Ah, Craigslist.
